Striping Tape: Three Ways

Hey guys! Today I have a mega tutorial for you all, with three different designs using striping tape. If you haven't heard of striping tape before, it's basically a roll of really thin tape that comes in a variety of colours and is great for nail art. I bought mine online from bornprettystore, it was super cheap and shipping is free, so I suggest you check them out here. There are endless possibilities of what you can do with striping tape, so here are just a few ideas to get you started.

What I Used:
- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Lay Down that Base
- OPI Black Onyx
- OPI Goldeneye
- OPI You're Such a Budapest
- OPI Jade is the New Black
- Essie Blanc
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Striping tape
- Acetone and clean up brush

Preparation is key! I started all designs with a base coat and finished with a top coat. I also pre-cut the tape into pieces before I painted my nails.

1. Black and Gold

- Apply two coats of gold polish and allow to dry completely. Using a fast drying top coat will speed up this process. It is crucial that your base colour is completely dry, otherwise when you remove the tape it will pull off the polish underneath

- Using your pre-cut pieces of tape that are long enough to cover the length of your nail and grip onto your skin, layer three strips of tape on your nail in a random, intersecting pattern. Make sure to press the tape firmly down onto your nail, especially in the corners, otherwise the polish may leak through and ruin your lines

- Apply a thick coat of black polish directly over the tape, making sure to get right to the edges to cover all the gold

- While the black is still wet, use tweezers or your fingers to slowly peel off the tape. You should be left with clean, gold lines

2. Criss-Crossed French Tips

- Apply two coats of a pastel polish and allow to dry completely. Again, adding a fast drying top coat will help

- Apply two pieces of tape to your nails diagonally in an X shape from the top corners to about a third of the way down your nail on the opposite side, making sure to press the tape down properly

- Carefully paint a thick layer of white polish over the X, but don't go over the bottom two lines

- While wet, carefully remove the tape and you should be left with some funky white tips

3. Negative Space Mani

- Firstly, you'll need to use a clear base coat for this design as your bare nail will be showing through (scandalous, I know)

- Once your base coat has dried, apply 3 or 4 horizontal strips of tape down your nail. I doubled up some pieces to make a couple of thicker lines to mix it up

- Apply a thick layer of polish, any colour, over the tape and the rest of your nail, then peel off the tape while the polish is still wet

- If any polish leaked under your tape, you can use a thin brush dipped in acetone or polish remover to fix up the lines

And there you go! Three different designs to try out using striping tape! I guess you could use regular tape and cut it into really thin strips, but ain't nobody got time for that...Let me know if you try any out for yourself, or if you come up with something else!
