Glitter Placement Tutorial

Hey everyone! Today I have a nail art trend/method called glitter placement, which is, you guessed it, placing glitter in pretty patterns. This is a very fiddly design that requires time, patience and persistence (neither of which I have a lot of, but this was my second attempt) so be warned! These tiny little glitter pieces can be absolutely infuriating as they tend to go everywhere except where you want them to go. That in mind, here's a tutorial for how I achieved this look, enjoy!
What I Used:

- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Keeping Suzi At Bay
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Silver diamond glitter from bornprettystore
- Tweezers
- Nail Scissors
- Toothpick/dotting tool/wax pencil

1. Before you begin, you'll need to prepare your glitter. Tip some out of the bottle onto a sheet of paper so you can easily put back the excess later. Using tweezers and small nail scissors, cut some of the glitter in to halves (some vertically, some horizontally). These half pieces will be needed to fill in the gaps at the tips and the sides of your accent nail. About 10-20 half pieces should be enough.

2. Now that your glitter is prepped, it's time to prep your nails with a base coat to protect them from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

3. Next paint your nails two coats of your base colour and allow to dry (adding a fast-drying top coat will help speed up this process).

4. There are a few different ways you can go about sticking glitter to your nails. Firstly, you can apply top coat to the whole of your nail and then stick the glitter on straight away. This method works well when there are only a few pieces to stick on (like I have done with all my nails except the ring finger), so it won't dry before you're finished. The second option is to use a dotting tool to dab on small amounts of top coat exactly where you're going to place the glitter, and adding more top coat as you go. This is better when you have lots of glitter to work with and you don't wan't the polish drying too quickly. Either way, add top coat to your nail and get ready to work quickly.

5. Using either a toothpick or small dotting tool with a small amount of top coat on the end, or a wax pencil, pick up a piece of glitter and gently press it onto your nail. To create a line of diamonds up the centre of the nail, start from the bottom and work your way up. The amount of glitter you'll need depends on the length of your nail and your spacing. If you're nail is a bit too long or a bit too short to fit the glitter, use a half piece on the tip.

6. For your accent nail (ring finger), start the same way as you did with the other nails, with a line of glitter up the centre of the nail. Add dots of top coat as you go, row by row, and carefully slot the glitter into the spaces on either side of your first line of glitter, trying to keep even spacing between the pieces.

7. When you get to the sides and the tip of your nail, there will be gaps where the diamond glitter doesn't fit. Here use a tiny bit of top coat and your pre-cut halves to fill in the spaces.

8. Give the glitter a few minutes to settle properly, and then seal it with a thick layer of a fast-drying of top coat.

And just like that you look like a nail art pro with your expert control of glitter. I hope this was helpful and I'd love your feedback, comment below with your thoughts :)
