Mermaid Mani Tutorial
If mermaids had fingernails then I'm sure this is what they'd look like - sparkly, shimmery scales to match their tails :) This look was inspired by @allnailseverything on instagram; you can check out her original here. For this look to really stand out, make sure you use metallic, duo-chrome shades for a realistic, scaley shimmer.
What I used:
- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Just Spotted the Lizard
- OPI Push and Shove
- Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Scarab
- OPI Top Coat
- Makeup sponge
- #000 nail art brush from Winstonia
- Nail polish remover and Q tips
1. Apply a base coat to protect your nails from stains and provide a smooth base for your polish
2. Next apply one coat of your lighter colour as a base for your gradient and allow to dry
3. Paint a stripe of your lighter colour alongside your darker colour on a makeup sponge and overlap them a little to help blend them together
4. Roll the sponge across your nail to create an ombre look. You may need to repeat this 2-3 times, reapplying polish to the sponge each time, to make it fully opaque
5. Once dry, using a thin nail art brush dipped in a metallic polish, start your scales by painting one small, C-shaped line at the bottom of your nail in the centre. To create an overlapping scale pattern, paint two C shapes on top of this first one, meeting in the centre of the top of your first scale
6. Repeat this pattern up your nail, and try to make all the scales the same size and the same distance apart
7. Once your scales have dried, apply a top coat to seal in your design. The sponging will have made a bit of a mess, so clean up around your nails with polish remover and q tips
