Snowflake Gradient Tutorial
It's beginning to look a lot like...CHRISTMAS! Even though we don't have a winter Christmas here in New Zealand, it was fun to channel my inner Elsa with this gorgeous blue gradient and snowflake design. I know there's less than three weeks to go, but I promise I will have some more Christmas designs up for you soon! For now, read my tutorial below to see how to get this mani for yourself :)
What I Used:
- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Alpine Snow
- OPI Keeping Suzi At Bay
- OPI No Room For The Blues
- OPI Gelato On My Mind
- OPI Pirouette My Whistle
- HK Girl Glisten and Glow Top Coat
- Rhinestones from bornprettystore
- Striping brush from bornprettystore
- Makeup sponge
- Cottonbuds
- Nail polish remover and cleanup brush
1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.
2. Paint your nails one coat of a white polish and allow to dry. This will act as a base for your gradient.
3. Using three different shades of blue polish, paint a stripe of each on a makeup sponge, going from darkest to lightest, and overlap the colours a little on the sponge to help with blending.
4. Apply the painted sponge to your nail with the darkest colour near the cuticle and the lightest colour at the tips. Pressing the sponge onto your nail in a rolling motion will ensure full coverage.
5. Re-apply polish to your sponge and repeat the application two or three times until you're happy with your gradient.
6. Apply a fast-drying top coat to help smooth out your gradient and allow to dry.
7. Using a thin striping brush and a white polish, begin your snowflake by painting a five-pointed asterisk shape. Add smaller lines to the 'branches' of the snowflake and to the tips. You can also add more detail to the centre of the snowflake by linking all the lines together in a hexagonal shape.
8. Once your snowflakes have dried, apply a fine glitter polish over top to add some sparkle and help blend your gradient together.
9. Add the final touch to your design by applying a layer of topcoat to your nails and placing a rhinestone or stud in the centre of each of your snowflakes. Clean up any polish around your nails with cottonbuds or a brush dipped in polish remover.
If you liked this design, feel free to leave your comments or suggestions down below, or find me on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time with some more festive fingernails!
