Christmas Nail Art: Layered Snowflake Tutorial

Hey guys! I've got another Christmas nail art tutorial for you all, this time with a white winter Christmas feel. Sadly, here in New Zealand it doesn't snow at Christmas time but I can pretend for a little bit while looking at this layered snowflake design, totally stolen from @christabellnails - you can see her YouTube tutorial here. You'll need a sheer or jelly polish for this design; OPI's Sheer Tints work perfectly for this. Read on for my tutorial!

What I Used:

- OPI Nail Envy Base Coat
- OPI Sheer Tints I Can Teal You Like Me
- White acrylic paint
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Striping brush from bornprettystore
- Cleanup brush and polish remover

1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

2. Next apply one or two coats of a sheer/jelly blue polish as a base and allow to dry.

3. Using a thin brush and either a white polish or acrylic paint (I'm currently out of white polish!) start your first snowflake anywhere on your nail by painting an asterisk with six points. Add some short flicks, dots, or small triangles to the 'arms' and the ends of your snowflake, and allow a couple of minutes to dry.

4. Paint directly over your first snowflake with the sheer blue and allow to dry. Adding a fast-drying topcoat here will make the process much quicker. Once dry, add another snowflake, not directly over the first but overlapping it a little. Vary the sizes and design of your snowflakes, at least the ones on the same nail, so they all look different - snowflakes are meant to be unique!

5. Add another coat of your sheer blue polish and allow to dry again. For the last layer, add one or two more snowflakes, whole or partial, and this time don't cover them in blue. This will give your design a cool sense of depth with the faded snowflakes in the background and the clear white ones in front.

6. Allow to dry and finish with a top coat for protection and shine. If you used acrylic paint then a top coat is crucial to seal it in, otherwise it will just wash off. Clean up around your nails with polish remover and a cottonbud or brush.

Ta da! Looks awesome, right? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and I'll be back next week with yet another Christmas design. See ya next time!
