Ombre Stamping Tutorial
Hey guys! I'm back with this totally gorgeous ombre stamping design, but I just wish the gold had shown up better against the white! Sometimes things just don't turn out as well in practice as I think they will in my head...maybe next time I'll use more contrasting colours. Try out a different colour combo for yourself and let me know how you go! As always, read on for my tutorial :)
What I Used:
- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Alpine Snow
- OPI Rollin' In Cashmere
- Seche Vite Top Coat
- Stamper, scraper and image plate BP-02 from bornprettystore
- Cottonbuds
- Makeup sponge
- Nail polish remover and cleanup brush
1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.
2. Paint your nails two coats of a white polish and allow to dry completely.
3. Paint a stripe of white polish and a stripe of gold polish next to one another on a makeup sponge, overlapping a little to blend the colours. Gently press the polished side of the sponge onto your nail and roll across it to get an even coverage of polish right into the edges.
4. Reapply polish to the sponge and repeat step 3 until you're happy with your ombre. Allow a couple of minutes drying time between coats so you don't pull the polish up.
5. Add a top coat to your nails to smooth out your ombre and provide a barrier between the polish and the stamping that will go on top (this way, if you mess up your stamping you can just wipe it off with polish remover without ruining your ombre underneath).
6. Once your nails are completely dry, you can start stamping. Paint over your image plate with gold polish and scrape it off in one smooth motion with the scraper. Pick up your image immediately with your stamper, line it up with your nail, and press firmly in a rolling motion to apply the stamp. If you didn't get it quite right, wipe your nail gently with a cottonbud and polish remover and try again.
7. Once you've stamped all your nails, carefully apply a thick layer of top coat over your stamping to seal everything. Using a thick layer will ensure the brush only drags through the top coat, not the polish underneath, and so avoids smudging.
8. Finally, clean up the mess around your nails from the ombre and the stamping with cottonbuds or a brush dipped in polish remover.
So quick and easy! I am just a little bit obsessed with stamping at the moment, mainly because it's so easy to do on my right hand. If you're just starting out with stamping, check out my previous stamping post here for more detailed tips and tricks. Let me know your thoughts on this design or any others in the comments below, or on Facebook or Instagram, and I'll see you next time!
