Halloween Nails #2: Blood Splatter Tutorial

Hi guys! As promised, today I have a second Halloween nail design for you all. I've seen this blood splatter look done by many people with a straw, but I tried that and failed miserably so this is my water-spotted version! If you've read my turquoise stone tutorial, this is pretty much the same process, but otherwise read on for my tutorial :)

What I Used:

- OPI Nail Envy Base Coat
- Essie Blanc
- Essie Aperitif
- OPI Top Coat
- Plastic cup
- Cotton buds
- Hairspray
- Acetone and cleanup brush

(OPTIONAL: Tape up around your nails first for ease of cleanup. I didn't bother because it takes a bit of time and didn't mind the mess, but it's up to you)

1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

2. Next apply two coats of a white polish and allow to dry.

3. Fill up a plastic/paper cup with room temperature water and drip 1-2 drops of red polish into the cup, allowing it to spread across the surface.

4. Holding the hairspray about 20cm away from the water, quickly spray once onto the surface of the water. The red polish should break up and form a speckled pattern. You can spray once more if your pattern is not quite right. Once you've chosen a suitable area, quickly dip your nail in, parallel to the surface of the water. Once it's underneath the water you can straighten your finger, and wait about ten seconds for the polish to dry on the surface. You can blow gently on the water to speed this up.

5. Carefully remove your finger while using a cottonbud to clean up the excess polish from the surface of the water. You should be left with a red veiny kind of pattern across your nail. if you're not completely happy with how it turned out, just repeat the previous step until you achieve the look you want.

6. Once you've done all your nails, you can remove the tape from your fingers (if you were prepared) or start cleaning up with cotton buds and polish remover. Allow them to dry then finish with a top coat to seal in your design.

And there you have it, super creepy nails to match your super creepy costume for Halloween! I hope you like this design and give it a go yourselves, and I'll see you next time!
