Halloween Nail Art: Jack O'lantern Nails

Boo! With Halloween just around the corner I thought it was about time I did some Halloween-themed nail art, and what's more Halloweeny than pumpkins! These Jack O'lantern faces are really cute and simple, and can be endlessly customised to your liking. I chose to do all different faces, but you could do the same face on each nail, or only a feature nail, or reverse the colours or whatever! Read my tutorial below to see how to get this design for yourselves :)

What I Used:

- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Where Did Suzi's Mango
- OPI Black Onyx
- Nail art brush from winstonia
- Dotting tool
- Polish remover and cleanup brush

1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

2. Paint your nails two coats of an orange polish and allow to dry.

3. Using a thin nail art brush, begin your face by painting a crescent-shaped line near the tip of your nail in black polish where you want the smile to go. Then go over this line a few times to thicken it up.

4. To make gaps for the teeth, use a small dotting tool dipped in the same orange polish as your base colour, and add a couple of dots on the top and bottom of your crescent to create some semi-circle shapes.

5. Some other mouth designs you can try are chevron shaped, like on my middle finger, or a simple 'stiched' mouth with one thin curve and multiple smaller straight lines through it, like I did on my pinky.

6. For the eyes, you can use either circles, semi circles or triangles. For the circular eyes, use a larger dotting tool and black polish, and then overlap them in a semi-circle shape with a smaller dotting tool and the orange polish (I found the circular eyes easier to do than the triangles)

7. For the nose, add two small lines joined together in a kind of upside-down heart shape, or paint a small triangle for the nose.

8. Allow to dry before applying a topcoat to avoid smudging. As always, cleanup any polish around your nails with polish remover and a brush or cottonbud.

Not too hard, right? I think these would look even spookier if the base was black and the faces were orange, my turned out a little more cute than scary! Let me know if you try this design out for yourself, thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!
