Ombre Dots Tutorial

Hey guys! Today I have a cutepolish-inspired design to show you that I actually did before a couple of years back, and gosh I'm glad I have improved! I've included a comparison photo at the end of this post if you want to see the difference. This design is super easy and would look great with any pastel-white combination, so read on for the tutorial!

What I Used:

- OPI Ridge Filler Base Coat
- OPI Alpine Snow
- OPI You're Such A Budapest
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Dotting tool
- Makeup sponge
- Cottonbuds
- Nail polish remover and cleanup brush

1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

2. Paint your nails one coat of a white polish as a base for your ombre and allow to dry.

3. Paint a stripe of your chosen coloured polish alongside a stripe of white polish on a makeup sponge, and overlap these slightly to blend the colours. Then press the polished side of the sponge onto your nail, with the white end nearer the cuticles, and gently roll it across to completely cover the nail.

4. Repeat this process two or three times until you have a smooth and opaque gradient, making sure to reapply polish to the sponge each time. Once you're happy with your gradient, apply a layer of top coat to further blend the colours and smooth out the texture left by the sponge.

5. Once that top coat has dried, dip a dotting tool (or you could use a bobby pin) in some white polish and add evenly-spaced dots all over the nail, then allow to dry to avoid smudging.

6. Finish your design with a final coat of top coat and clean up the mess left on your fingers from the sponging with cottonbuds or a brush dipped in polish remover.

Easy peasy, but so cute! For those of you who are curious, here is my earlier attempt from more than two years ago. I think some improved photography skills and a better handpose make a big difference, but I also think my ombre skills have improved significantly! What do you guys think?

We all have to start somewhere, so don't be discouraged - there's always room for improvement! Thanks for reading, and I'll see you next time!
