Ombre Chevron Tutorial
Hey guys! I'm back with another awesome nail tutorial for you all; ombre chevrons! This mani was done using chevron nail vinyls from nailvinyls.com, which I found to be super easy to use and super cheap and easy to get your hands on. There are loads of different sizes and shapes to choose from and shipping to New Zealand was less than $5, so I highly recommend you check them out! Read on to find out how to get this look for yourself!
What I Used:
- OPI Nail Envy Base Coat
- OPI Alpine Snow
- OPI Planks A Lot
- OPI I Vant To Bite Your Neck
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Chevron nail vinyls from nailvinyls.com
- Makeup sponge
- Tweezers
- Cottonbuds
- Nail polish remover and cleanup brush
1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.
2. Next apply one coat of white polish and allow to dry. This will act as a base for your ombre.
3. Using two shades of the same colour (I chose purple), paint a stripe of each on a makeup sponge and overlap them a little to blend the colours. Then lightly dab the sponge onto your nail, with the darker colour near the cuticles and the lighter colour nearer the tips.
4. Go over your ombre another two or three times, allowing to dry between applications. Try to roll the sponge as you press it onto the nail, so you get a smooth and full coverage (don't worry about getting polish all over your fingers, this can be easily cleaned up later.)
5. Add a fast-drying top coat to seal in your ombre and dry it quickly.
6. Once your nails are completely dry, apply three chevron vinyls to your nail, evenly spaced above each other. Make sure to press them down firmly and tuck in the edges so polish won't seep underneath.
7. Apply a thick coat of white polish straight over the vinyls and the whole of your nail, covering up all the colour underneath.
8. While the polish is still wet, carefully remove the vinyls using a pair of tweezers or your fingers. You should be left with a nice, crisp chevron design that forms a purple gradient.
9. Once everything has dried, apply a top coat for protection and shine. Make sure to use a thick coat, so as not to pull on the design underneath and smudge it. Clean up the mess around your nails with a cottonbud or brush dipped in polish remover.
I LOVE this look and I hope you do too, and please try it out for yourselves! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and I'll see you next time!
