Rainbow Nail Foils Tutorial
Hey everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts, I've been busy with uni exams (actually I still am, but shhh.)These nails actually look soooo much prettier in the sunlight, but the weather has just been awful here in Auckland so please forgive me. Today I present my second attempt using nail foils, this time using a gorgeous multicoloured foil I purchased from my go-to online nailart shop, bornprettystore, of course. They have loads of different colours and patterns and they're really cheap, so I recommend checking them out. This look is inspired by fellow kiwi nailart blogger @naileditnz, and you can check out her tutorial here. My tutorial is a bit different because I'll show you how to do it without the glue, because mine didn't come with any! Read on to find out more...
What I Used:
- OPI Nail Envy Base Coat
- OPI Black Onyx
- OPI Top Coat
- Nail Foil from bornprettystore
- Scissors
- Cottonbud
- Acetone and cleanup brush
1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.
2. Cut your foil into rectangular pieces that are just larger than your nail. About five pieces should do it; you won't use a whole piece per nail.
3. Paint your nails with two coats of a dark base colour to really bring out the bright colours (TIP: Paint one coat on both hands, then the second coat on just one hand first, otherwise the polish will be too dry on the other hand by the time you get to it for the foils to work.)
4. Wait about 3-5 minutes for your nails to partially dry. They should still be tacky enough to leave a fingerprint.
5. Take a piece of foil and place it over your nail with the patterned side facing up. Then, using a cottonbud, gently rub on the areas of your nail where you want the foil to transfer. If you're using a multicoloured foil like me, make sure you're not just transferring one colour.
6. Lift up the piece of foil and you should see patches of colour on your nail where you pressed down on it. Repeat the previous step as many times as you like until you're happy with the coverage.
7. Apply a top coat to seal in the foils and leave a smooth nail surface. Avoid using fast-drying topcoats as these tend to crinkle and dull the foil.
8. As usual, clean up any mess with a cottonbud or brush dipped in acetone/polish remover.
And you're done! I hope some of you try it out for yourself, and please feel free to let me know how it goes. See you next time!
Lisa xx
