Turquoise Stone Nails Tutorial

Hey guys! So I've been wanting to try these turquoise stone nails for a while and at LAST I found the perfect pretty turquoise to do it with; OPI My Dogsled Is A Hybrid from their new Nordic collection (it's a tad bluer in real life than the picture shows). I've seen so many versions of this mani all over Instagram and YouTube, but I followed cutepolish's tutorial on her super popular YouTube channel. This is quite a messy mani so prepare yourself with all the right supplies beforehand and clear yourself a big enough space to work in. Read on for my tutorial!

What I Used:

- OPI Nail Envy Base Coat
- OPI My Dogsled Is A Hybrid
- OPI Black Onyx
- Revlon Catty
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Gladwrap (clingwrap/saran wrap, same thing)
- Plastic cup
- Tape
- Scissors
- Hairspray
- Cotton buds
- Acetone and cleanup brush

1. Apply a base coat to protect your natural nails from stains and provide a smooth base for polish.

2. Paint your nails two coats of a turquoise polish and allow to dry (a fast-drying top coat will help speed up the process.)

3. Tape up around your nails to minimize mess and help with your clean up. Two or three short pieces of tape should be enough to cover most of the skin around your nails.

4. Scrunch up a small piece of gladwrap into a ball and brush a small amount of gold polish onto it. Lightly dab the gladwrap ball onto your nail and small patches of gold polish will transfer onto your nail. You can repeat the process if you need more coverage.

5. Fill up a plastic or paper cup with room temperature water, add 1-2 drops of a black polish and allow it to spread on the surface.

6. Holding the hairspray about 20cm away from the water, quickly spray once onto the surface of the water. The black polish should break up and form a speckled pattern. If you need more separation, give it one more spray. Choose the area you want to capture, and quickly dip your nail in, parallel with the surface of the water. Once it's under the surface, you can straighten your finger. Lightly blow on the water to help dry the polish, and after about ten seconds you can remove the excess polish from the surface with a cotton bud and then gently remove your finger from the water.

7. You should be left with black 'veins' across your nail, but if you didn't quite get it right just repeat step 6 until you're happy with the look. Remove the tape from around your nails and apply a top coat to smooth and seal your design.

8. Clean up around your cuticles with polish remover/acetone and a brush or cotton bud.

All done! I got a bit frustrated with this mani because it's such a long and messy process, but I was really pleased with the finished look and I hope you are too! See ya next week!
